When Should I Book My Newborn's Photo Session?
You are expecting a brand new addition to your family, Congratulations! So much excitement and planning to do to prepare for your little one!
One of the things clients are often not sure about is when to book their photo shoot – after all, if you’re not entirely sure when you’re baby will arrive, how can you book a photo shoot for them? In this guide I’ll explain why it’s important to schedule newborn sessions in advance, and the best time to do this.
The best time for your in studio newborn session to take place is between 6-14 days after baby has arrived. This ensures baby is still sleepy and squishy for those sweet curly newborn poses. It is incredible how fast babies grow and change so having the session in this time frame makes sure we capture all their sweet newborn goodness!
Babies are unpredictable so knowing exactly when they will decide to enter this world is usually not something that we know. For that reason to book a session in advance , I pencil in only a certain amount of due dates for each week. That way I will be prepared if baby decides to arrive early or after their due date and be able to have room in my schedule for all the babies. :)
Newborn sessions are typically between 2.5 -3 hours long , for that reason I only schedule one session in a day so that I am able to give all my time and attention to my one client for the day.
I also only schedule 2-3 newborn sessions per week so that I am able to have your gorgeous images edited and delivered to you within 1 to 2 week time frame.
Scheduling your session in advance ensures I leave enough time in my schedule to photograph your little one within the 2 week window after birth.
My newborn sessions take place on week day mornings or early afternoons, so planning your newborn session a head of time allows you to plan ahead with your spouse's work schedule and sibling's school schedules if you would like to incorporate sibling and family poses into your session.
If your baby has already arrived but you haven’t booked your session , don't worry! If one of my client’s babies has arrived early or late it’s possible that I may have space for an extra session , I try my absolute best to accommodate you and your newest arrival!
